ASEAN-China Survey 2020: Assessing the Present and Envisioning the Future of ASEAN-China Relations

ASEAN and China enter its 30th year of diplomatic relations in 2021. The relationship in the past 30 years has been up and down and complex yet it has always been closed and strategic. In 2020, amidst the pandemic of Covid-19, the relationship of ASEAN and China will enter a higher plane as the ten ASEAN member states decide whether or not to grant China an upgrade of its status from 'strategic partner' to ' comprehensive strategic partner.' Such consideration and its outcome denote the importance of ongoing relations and future cooperation between ASEAN and China. Moreover, China has been ASEAN's largest trading partner since 2009. Against this backdrop, the Research and Analysis department of Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia conducted the "ASEAN-China Survey 2020". The survey aims to capture the views of Southeast Asian on the region's relations with China through collected data from 1000 respondents coming from elites and students from all ASEAN member countries.
